Prior to founding Elastic Knowledge, Woelk was Vice President of Engineering for the Austin Development Center of Docent, Inc. where he led development effort for a number of next generation Docent products in the area of e-learning and knowledge management. Before Docent, he was a Managing Director in the Austin office of Scient, an eBusiness systems integrator. He managed technical teams providing design and implementation of eBusiness systems for Scient clients including Honeywell, Johnson Wax and iBuilding.  Prior to Scient, Woelk was Vice President of Software Consulting Services at the MCC research consortium where he managed a variety of projects related to information technology and intelligent agents. He was previously Director of the MCC Carnot enterprise integration research project and the MCC InfoSleuth agent research project at MCC. He was also Co-Founder and President of Rosette Webworks, Inc., a company that provided products and consulting in the areas of enterprise integration and data mining. Prior to joining MCC, Woelk worked for 10 years at NCR as a software architect and manager of groups developing information management products.

Mr. Woelk is the author of over 30 published articles on intelligent agents, the World Wide Web, query processing, multimedia information management, heterogeneous database management and advanced transaction management. Mr. Woelk received the B.S. Degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Kansas and the M.S. Degree in Computer Science from Kansas State University.
